I have been a jazz vocalist in Portand, Oregon since about 1985 and worked with many wonderful musicians, both locally and throughout the US and in Europe. This is a business where the more you work, the more you learn and develop. I started out playing guitar (took lessons from Cyd Smith who lived in Portland) but play far less often these days. I myself am now studying guitar with Tracy Kim in Portland, who’s a great teacher on guitar and ukulele.
I’d love to know how to read melodies more easily, and understand how to approach single-note soloing. But my favorite thing in the world is discovering new songs I like to sing, and though I know a ton, there are still many treasures out there I don’t know yet, but I seem to keep finding them. Lucky me!
