Kate Long is a national award-winning songwriter whose singing voice Rambles Magazine described as "a superb instrument." As a student evaluation at the Swannanoa Gathering said, "I do not believe there is a songwriting instructor in the U.S. who can top Kate's ability to bring out the best in students of all levels. She creates an aura of excitement, safety and encouragement." A West Virginia native, she has performed at the International Storytelling Center and the Kennedy Center Millenium Stage and teaches songwriting and singing classes at Augusta, Swannanoa and various camps. Her songs, including "Who Will Watch the Homeplace" and "McNamara's Tear," have been recorded on four continents. She performs solo and with Robin Kessinger, has 3 CDs, and is a freelance public radio and print journalist.
