"Acclaimed guitar-virtuoso … Seeger’s guitar playing is exceptional and with his lifetime of experience, he is able to push the boundaries …”
- Chris Saucier, WWOZ
"Brian Seeger is one of the unsung heroes of modern New Orleans jazz.”
- Jay Mazza, thevinyldistrict.com
An integral part of New Orleans vibrant music community, Brian Seeger is known for his rich fluid tone, searching melodic improvisations and compelling compositions. His recording and bandmember credits include the Organic Trio, Davell Crawford, Aaron Neville, Stanton Moore, Karrin Allyson, Cindy Scott and many others.
Seeger has performed extensively in the United States and abroad, sharing his music with audiences in 30 countries including Bolivia, Brazil, Finland, India, Kazakhstan, Morocco and Turkey. He has appeared at the North Sea Jazz Fest, the Montreal Jazz Fest, Montreux, the Umbria Jazz Fest, Spoleto, and innumerable times at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Fest.
Although his musical excursions have been influenced by his studies with contemporary jazz figures such as Gary Burton and Ellis Marsalis, Seeger's playing is well grounded in the blues and American roots music, as well as the sounds of New Orleans. Seeger melds these elements into an approach that is extremely heartfelt and individual; his aesthetic is fundamentally that of a jazz musician, but there is still ample space for ideas from other idioms.
A well-regarded jazz educator, Seeger is the Coca-Cola Endowed Chair in Jazz Studies at the University of New Orleans. Seeger is also an award winning composer and producer, with over 30 discs to his credit. Seeger is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences Producer and Engineering wing (the GRAMMYs), and is an artist endorser for Mesa Boogie amplifiers and D’Addario products.
